..anyone here do it?

I just got my Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 (with optional 4 inch Gold Nugget coil) in today and cannot wait to get out in the yard and start calibrating it, and possibly finding anything that the previous owners of our house "lost". :)

I guess I was bit by the bug when watching a few episodes of Gold Hunters on TLC. We even have plenty of gold in the Superstition mountains near us -of course all you would be able to take would be what you found in a pan since it is all Federal park land.

Yea, I have done metal detecting since 1979. I have a white 6000, its my second one.
The secret in finding things where others have hunted is to make sure your sweeping motion over laps half of the width of the coil when you move it. You might think about getting an eight inch coil. The large the deeper, and the more area it covers. It also makes it more difficult to locate the object. If you get over an eight inch coil then you will be hitting on metals that are large and maybe three feet in the ground. You will also get false readings at times with very large coils.
In the desert areas when looking for gold your four or six inch coil is the best because it is so much easier to pin point your target.

Thanks for the advice!

The detector actually comes with an 8 inch coil, but got the 4 inch one on the advice of some who actually use it to look for gold. To say I am a beginner at this point is a rather extreme understatement. I have yet to buy the two 9 volt batteries (and a 1/4 headphone adapter so I can use a cheap pair of ear bud headphones).

I was looking at a Garrett's as well. Honestly, it was kind of hard to research because there was no brand name of detector which was considered "cheap" by the general treasure hunting populace. There ARE cheap detectors though so it seemed that the sweet spot was in the 200-300 range overall.

I loaded up with my metal detector...lol told my son we were going to his school and I wanted him to show me outside were the kids stood to get snacks...lol came up with about $3 in change...

I used to hit the soccer field across from the church, during the summer there will be lots of people there. Always find change.

I was playing with mine outside in our yard and it is amazing how well it can distinguish between different metals. It actually rates the metal on a scale, with the lower numbers being iron, and sure enough -nails!

Pick up one of those pin pointers, they will help you a lot when you are diggin.
