Once you find out about what the oil companies actually pay for oil, (with production costs under 35 dollars per barrel) you kind of lose faith in America in general.

What do they pay for oil, production, transportation to refineries, refinement, more transportation, overhead, marketing, etc.? What profit margin is acceptable?

I thought 99 cents a gallon was pretty darn acceptable. My grandfather thought filling his car up for 5 bucks was pretty acceptable too. Transportation to refineries: it's not like they have to pay for gas...

BTW, I'm not saying $5/gal is acceptable. Just wondering what the numbers really are. But yeah, it would be great to see 99/gal again! :)

What was his yearly wage?

Not sure, but he was doing pretty well, working offshore. But to Timmy...do you find the 400+% profit acceptable? Take into consideration that a normal retail store makes about a 60% profit per product.

I completely understand inflation, and 5 dollars a tank would be unacceptable with what todays dollar is worth. But the dollar isn't so worthless that oil is worth 124 dollars a barrel.

I think grocery stores make like 3%. It's not very good anyway.

Wow. Do you have any links to source data showing 400% profit?
