What is your OPINION and why? Tree of Life
I was thinking the other day about the tree of Knowledged that Eve decided to sample after being told to not do so.
Some have said the fruit was an Apple. I guess they took that thought from the old saying "an apple a day will keep the doctor away". However, I have some different thoughts, and although none of us KNOW what the fruit was it is interesting to see different ideas and the reason behind them. My first thought was it was a Fig tree because Adam and Eve used the fig leaves to cover themselves. Don't know if you have ever picked figs, but those are itchy trees at best. My second thought was perhaps an Olive tree. Olives were used in the Tabernacle to make the oil for the lamps. But my final thought was a Pomegranate tree. Reason: The High Priest wore the pomergranates on their robe. Solomon also had them in the design of his temple. Research is now saying Pomegranates are one of the healthiest fruit you can eat. Now this thread is just for the fun of it, using our reasoning as to what we "think" COULD be the answer. I can't wait to see your thoughts. :) |

I used to wonder why A&E didn't eat from the tree of life, right after the tree of knowledge...

It was a cool crisp $100 bill.
Money no longer grows on trees and the love of it is the root of all evil. |

Maybe the fruit wasn't really something edible after all.
Maybe that account is a metaphor for something deeper the world has yet to decode! |

Re: What is your OPINION and why? Tree of Life
I believe in the literal story. However, I do believe that each literal event had a deeper spiritual meaning. I don't know if we can know for sure what these given "fruit" were. However, here are my thoughts....
Adam and Eve were tempted, and gave into, eating from the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil". Think about this, the serprent said that God was holding out on them because he knew that if they partook of it they would be "as gods knowing good and evil". The problem is... they were already like God, formed in his image and likeness from the beginning. The promise of the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil" was the ability to know... GOOD AND EVIL. In other words... what is right and what is wrong. Instead of living in childlike innocense with God, accepting that they were indeed already like God, and partaking of the tree of life and living forever... they reached out to know what was right and what was wrong. They reached out to... legalism. The moment they ate of the fruit, they knew that they were naked, felt shame, and tried to make aprons of leaves (works) to cover their nakedness. But as the story goes on we read that the Lord made coats of skins and clothed them. Only God can cover our shame. No amount of works (aprons) made of our own hands can make us righteous. Yet, our fallen nature has a propensity to seek to either dive headlong into sin... or seek to know right and wrong to appease God (legalism). So we have all the questions about standards, etc. We have a similar choice. We have been born again and have partaken in Christ's nature. While we are not yet perfected, we must reckon ourselves to be righteous IN CHRIST alone. Not in accordance to our works. Yet Satan, the serpent, continues to call out to us about standards of right and wrong, claiming that we can make ourselves righteous and be like God according to our works. Legalism is an age old lie. One can live in an abiding Grace, partaking in that which brings eternal life.... or one can live according to the knowledge of good and evil, only to find themselves in desperate need of a covering. I'll take grace... I'll take... Jesus Christ...the tree of life. |

can't get to it...this, and the fact that they covered their privates, rather than their mouths (neither organ would have any particular associations for them at that point) indicate to me that these trees are actually representative of actions, and maybe in time their conscience would be assuaded enough that they could then do the tree of life thing? Otherwise, satan would have suggested it, wouldn't he? Aquila, as to your post, I would say that they reached out to "humanism," or frontal lobes; which will of course result in legalism-- and it can be easy to forget here that God knew that they would "eat." Amen to the rest. |

Ok no one has an opinion on what kind of fruit it "may" have been?
