Pentecost Sunday

1 Attachment(s)
For those of us who follow the Roman Catholic Calendar (Easter on Sunday April 8 this year) Pentecost will be on Sunday May 27th. Does your church place any special emphasis on this day?

Some Christians believe the Church was "born" on the Day of Pentecost or Shavu'ot in Acts chapter 2. Others believe the Church was "empowered" on that day to begin taking the Gospel to the whole world. It is my understanding that the events in Acts chapter 2 occurred on Sunday May 28, AD 30. Others think the year was AD 32 or AD 33.

Actually, I received the Holy Ghost Baptism on Pentecost Sunday May 20, 1956 at Bethel Tabernacle (UPC) in Racine, Wisconsin. I did not know at the time that it was Pentecost Sunday and there was no mention of it at our church.

There are 3 of us at our church who take turns teaching a Sunday morning Bible lesson and also the midweek Bible Study. It will be my turn to teach on May 27 so I will be teaching on Pentecost and the Holy Ghost Baptism. It will be my turn to teach at the Wednesday May 23 midweek service so I will probably be teaching on something along those lines--maybe on the Early and Latter Rain which I taught on before.

Pentecost Sunday Movement Believing for Fresh Outpouring
by Jennifer LeClaire

One day. One message. One fresh outpouring on a new generation. That’s the aim of Empowered21 this Pentecost Sunday, May 27.

Pentecost Sunday 2012 is a global initiative of Empowered21—a coalition of churches, ministries and organizations working together to help shape the future of the Spirit-empowered movement across the world.

“Over the years, at least in the historic Pentecostal church I grew up in, we celebrated Christmas extravagantly and Easter in a wonderful way,” Billy Wilson, executive director of the International Center for Spiritual Renewal and Empowered21, told Charisma News. “But not much unique happened in our local church on Pentecost Sunday—and for those of us who are Spirit-empowered and Spirit-filled this should be our big day.”

The goal of the Pentecost Sunday Initiative is to have pastors in pulpits all over the world preaching about the Holy Spirit and His empowerment of God’s people on a single day of unity and power.

“We are calling on the entire movement to invite new generations to experience the person, power and presence of God through the Spirit in our generation,” Wilson says. “We are only 21 years away from what many would consider the 2,000-year anniversary of the original Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out in Jerusalem.”

Pentecost Sunday is in line with Empowered21’s vision: That every person on Earth would have an authentic encounter with Jesus Christ through the Power and Presence of the Holy Spirit ... by Pentecost 2033.

“We want to do whatever we can over these next two decades to bring God’s presence to the earth until the entire earth is covered with the knowledge of the glory of God,” Wilson says. “And we want to use Pentecost Sunday as a moment that we can unite together in local churches to hear preaching and teaching on the Holy Spirit.”

Thousands of churches and ministries on the six inhabited continents will be participating. Wilson says no church is too small or too large to be a part of this unified proclamation of the Holy Spirit’s ministry.

Does that make me Pentecostal?

Yup--but it also makes you "Church."
You'll get over the "Pentecostal" part...
I suggest prayer and fasting! :heeheehee

Some find the United Pentecostal Church in Acts chapter 2.

verse one says when the day of Pentecosts was fully come ---so that's Pentecostal
verse one also says they were all with one accord in one place --so that's united
verse 47 says the Lord added to the church --so that's church

Hmm, well, I may have to do some re-reading Sam, but I'm getting really
averse to anything put before "Church." Maybe it's just where I'm at right now, but "qualifiers" in front of Church is just striking me as a wall,
rather than a door. (You "split" because...?)

The Catholics have a good verse for their split, too. It's even in the Bibles
they didn't alter?
