FYI: It's "Lose", Rhymes with "Choose"

This is the thread to help correct the many misspellings and butcherings of the King's English found here on the forum.

One of the many errors I see is people spelling "lose" as "loose". I suppose its because "choose" is spelled the way it is.

So for the record: "lose" rhymes with "choose", "loose" rhymes with "goose".

Used in a sentence: "I will LOSE my temper if people CHOOSE to live as LOOSE as a GOOSE."

Feel free to address any other common mistakes found here on AFF. If we're going to be legalistic about something, let's be grammar legalists!

What really burns me are all the people here who keep mixing up night with knight.

"We will not go quietly into the knight!"

Your/You're

It's YOUR choice whether YOU'RE going to Heaven or not.

One that bugs me in real life is the idea/ideal.
As in "I have a great ideal!"...
Arghhhhhh

Ha ok, I consider this a personal problem,
since the meaning is still received,
but apostrophe's before esse's (s)
imply "ownership."

My mother's apron was a big hit with the other mothers.
The only exceptions are if/when articles of speech
(its, theirs, ours...and the commonest one,
which is escaping me at the moment) have possession,
no apostrophe is needed, and will be read as a contraction of "is."
It's considered perfect because of its beauty.

lol. I think maybe that was the most common one.
"it's" is always "it is."

In the spirit of legalism...it should be "Queen's English."

Well, you get the point...

For the most part, I can interpret different styles of writing, which is why I rarely say anything if I do.
