I kind of agree with this quote from the article:

Christian author Eric Metaxas, who has written scripts for "Veggie Tales," wrote this month that he was “kind of upset” at LifeWay.

“I think it’s insane,” he wrote. “For outsiders looking in, the moral of the story is that ‘there is no pleasing Christians. They always seem to be looking for something to be mad about.’”

Great movie!

No one can really be this sensitive can they???

Maybe I'm just hardened but when someone's eyes pop when I say 'darn' or my kid gets written up at the church school for saying 'butt' I am flabbergasted... and think it's a total pompus put-on.

Taking this movie off the shelf is just like that to me... self righteous and stupid.

I may be in the minority on this, but I would not have carried it in the first place. Lifeway is not a "good" or "clean" bookstore, it is expressly a Christian book store. Something can be more good than bad, but still not need to be carried by a Christian bookstore. The "n word" was not the only questionable issue. There were many more swear words used.

Lifeway is a branch of the SBC. Their vision statement is:
"As God works through us, we will help individuals and churches by
providing biblical solutions for life."

In many places in their mission statement, they talk about biblical solutions being offered. I for one think we should be careful that we don't allow people to place genuinely unChristlike materials in with the biblical solutions just because they are accompanied by "good" material. In keeping with their stated purpose and mission, they should not have stocked it to begin with. IMO

Hands-down, a great movie. I don't shop at Lifeway, so I could care less what they do. Their loss since the movie can be bought at several other venues...

Someone said (this is a loose quote, don't remember the exact words) " A Puritan is a person who always has a lingering, sneaking suspicion that somewhere someone might be having fun."

I agree with this. Saw the movie and thought it was pretty good. No need to go to a Christian store to buy secular entertainment with a moral story, we can always go to Walmart for these kind of things.
