Nursing School

Hi All,

Some of you know that I am in my second week of nursing school. Anybody else here a nurse or something similar? Whew! It's been a whirlwind already! I am very glad I have a husband to support me (financially and otherwise) while I do this. Some of the people in my classes have a job and little kids. I don't know how they are going to do it!

Anyway, I would love to hear from others who have been through this experience.

ILG

I went to nursing school when my twins were less than a year old. I was fortunate that my grandmother lived with me and took care of my family while I was in school. I went straight from LPN School to RN School and by that time was working while in RN School.

The best advice I can give you is to get a calendar and LIVE by it! Go through your syllabus and write down when every test will be or every assignment is due. That kept me on track. You're right, it's a whirlwind! But, a GOOD one!

GOOD LUCK and BEST WISHES!

PS I ended up being an instructor at the very school that I attended and THAT was the BEST!

Not that I recall. If I did, it was so traumatic that I blocked it from my memory.

:lol You'll do great, I'm sure. Maybe Emma can help you study. If you see her, tell her we miss her, will ya? ;)

Algae, congrats on entering nursing school. The medical field is a great one to get into as we have an aging population.

ILG, now when you go to a Halloween party dressed as "The Naughty Nurse", it will have even more meaning! :)

Congratulations! Nursing school is difinately a whirlwind and I don't know how people do it while working full-time, I've never been able to. I became an LPN in 1991 a few months before my kids turned 11 and 13. In 97 I became an RN, with an associate's degree and now I'm half way through my BSN. Each time I said I wouldn't go back again but I've always had co-workers and family who encouraged me to go on. This time, instead of saying I won't go back again, I am staying open to the possibility that I may return for my MSN.

Hey, thanks for the input! I have put everything in a little calendar....color coded so I know which class it is for. I am on my way to clinicals and am a little less brain dead than I was last night. ;)

Congrats on being an instructor. So you have a masters?

Emma doesn't come around as much as much as she used to. As a matter of fact, a couple of weeks ago, I took down some Amish pictures (paintings) I had in my living room. Emma is offended that I don't go to church anymore. She says "Lawsuits and people smashing out your husband's truck windows, cancer or no, you best get your little heinie down to church or your goin' to hell". As you can see, we don't have much in common anymore. ;)

Thanks. I thought long and hard about what field to enter. This field seems to have the greatest opportunities and it is also a ministry. ;)
