Japan And China? Will They Clash?

Re: Japan And China? Will They Clash?
Uninhabited islands are the problem?
I doubt it. There must be something more to it. But than again you never know, in the Middle East they burn embassies because of cartoons and utubes. |
Re: Japan And China? Will They Clash?
fishing rights

Re: Japan And China? Will They Clash?
Fishing rights.....no cartoons.
That makes a little sense. Did they produce a Utube with fishing vessels? |
Re: Japan And China? Will They Clash?
Japanese rely on fish...not sure what the Chinese want the islands for other than a macho ego thing

Re: Japan And China? Will They Clash?
I believe the dispute is over oil/natural gas reported to be there after UN survey in 1968 and not over fish.

1968? Then the owner who sold them to Japan is an idiot

Re: Japan And China? Will They Clash?
Based on what both sides have said neither will allow any exploration or drilling so the owner probably did the necessary, pocketed the money, and wisely moved on

Re: Japan And China? Will They Clash?
The Chinese have been growing more antagonistic toward various neighbors over the last four years (wonder why...?). They have actively threatened Taiwan and are now harassing Japan. They know that we have moved our carriers out of the area to deal with other problems. Because we are not actively on location, China is now showing Japan that they are the regional powerhouse. This is nothing less than a threat to U.S. global dominance as Japan has long sat under the umbrella of our protection. However, due to our negligence in updating and expanding our fleet, we no longer can project our influence effectively around the world. Due to our long term involvement with Iraq, Egypt, and Libya, we are not in a position to protect our allies and assets in the Pacific. China has been steadily undercutting the United States position in the region for the last few years, and are steadily becoming more aggressive. This comes at a bad time as our Muslim enemies are becoming more antagonistic at the same time. We are now facing enemies on two fronts. With Russia making a resurgence in Europe, we are now in a position where it is in the interest of most of our allies to make other arrangements and leave us encircled and isolated.
