Deliverance Ministry: What are your thoughts???

What are your thoughts about the growing trend in "deliverance ministries" that appear to combat Satan on the front lines of demonic oppression and possession?

Here's a link explaining what a "deliverance ministry" is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deliverance_ministry

I ask this because I had a minister recommend that I read several different books on the subject after sharing with him a situation I encountered. I had two of them that were on a shelf that I hadn't read yet and purchased the others. I've now finished them and I'm wondering what some of your opinions of this ministry are. Here are the books:

Here are some thoughts to consider as you explore this topic:

Mat 8:16-17-- When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Mat 10:1--And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Mat 10:8--Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Mat 12:28--But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Mar 16:17--And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Luk 9:1--Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

Luk 10:17--And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

1Th 5:23--And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible is clear that man is a tri-partite being and that Jesus’ sacrificial death provided for the whole man. Old time Pentecostals used to refer to it as what they called the “three-fold cure.”

Salvation of the spirit is what we commonly call simply “salvation.”
Salvation of the body, we call healing.
Salvation of the soul is deliverance from demonic oppression.

Many people avoid this vital aspect of the believer’s ministry, either from fear or a desire to avoid controversy. This IS a ministry that has received well deserved criticism due to its frequent excess and abuse. Sadly, much needless ignorance exists in this area.

Misunderstood, overlooked and rejected, it remains an important hallmark of true apostolic ministry, as demonstrated by the above verses. We have just as much of a Biblical basis for this as we do the ministry of healing. As children of God we have been given authority over the demonic by virtue of our position and through the Name of Jesus.

There is much that can be said in this area, as well as much to be avoided. The fact remains, this is a vital area of personal ministry and people continue to suffer needlessly through our ignorance and neglect.

I would invite you to visit my blog on “Spiritual Dominion,” that examines some aspects of the Biblical basis for this ministry:

You will do well to consider this issue as it will greatly enhance your ability to minister effectively.

I believe in real deliverance.

I also know that there are more profits in the world than there are Prophets.

Aquila, I have been on the receiving end on some very effective deliverance ministry and some that was a mix up of high-end-miss or spiritually abusive prayer and counselling that accompanied it. I have also had some good and bad teaching and training in this area. I was listening to Jason Sciscoe teaching on operating in the spiritual gifts recently and he suggested to pray that we take on the good attributes of our spiritual mentors and not their peculiarities and quirks. Sounded like great advice. I know it's real and that there are many people who need freedom from spiritual bondage, oppression and possession as I have seen it and experienced it. I also know that there are a lot of people praying out of their own carnal wishes or their own understanding that should be seeking God and getting confirmation before they lay hands on people and pray in error. We need leaders of discernment prepared to take authority over certain behaviours as spiritual abuse is a very dangerous thing and causes many to stumble. On a side note... my kindle autocorrected your name and turned it into Tequila... lol

Re: Deliverance Ministry: What are your thoughts??

Deliverance ministry is something that each and every believer really has the authority to take part in. So many people spiritually live below their spiritual authority that they have been given through Christ in the Holy Spirit. Now, some modern 'deliverance ministries' can be abusive, but I know of some that are nothing but spiritually beneficial and are in alignment with the compassionate work of the Holy Spirit. Having myself received deliverance, I know that this is real, but I also see it being a two-edged sword for some.

There are valid deliverance ministries out there and there are some that go to extremes.
