Unlocking the Supernatural: The Seer
The Bible mentions a classification of prophet known as a "seer". The term was used for the wandering prophets of ancient Israel before the Davidic Kingdom. A definition I found for the "seer" follows:
SEERThere appears to be some distinction between the "prophet" and the "seer". From my understanding the "prophet" is a mouth piece for God, speaking the Word of God with a "Thus saith the LORD..." However, the "seer" not only walks in the prophetic gift, but the seer also has a "spiritual sight", wherewith he (or she) is able to "see" into the spiritual realm. They can interpret dreams, omens, signs, etc. The gift of "discernment of spirits" runs thick in the seer. The seer is known to receive symbolic spiritual "visions" or "insights" that they do not fully understand on behalf of individuals or nations and largely depend upon divine revelation regarding their interpretation. Kings and public officials in ancient Israel would often seek out or hire a seer to serve in their royal courts. The seer is God's answer to hell's "psychics" and "fortune-tellers". God promised such giftings with regards to the baptism of the Holy Ghost... Joel 2:28 (ESV)This prophecy reveals that a day would come wherein this gift would be open for any who might seek it, thereby fulfilling the desire of Moses with regards to God's children walking in the prophetic...
