Redeemed from the Law

We hear this a lot; and there also seems to be quite a bit of confusion about it. Am I supposed to follow the Law, or have I been redeemed from the curse of it? Both, as it turns out...

Believers in Biblical times understood that 'the Law' actually meant one of four sets of Laws--corresponding to Moses' repeated trips up Mt Sinai; and we have only been freed from one, that is, the Ceremonial Law. The other three, the Moral, Civil, and Health Laws, have never been repealed.

All in the Name, Stringfellow, pp 74-88 (Chap. 6)

Heb 8:8 For he finds fault with them when he says: "Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
Heb 8:9 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more."
Heb 8:13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

that is not what i was asking. i was asking where in the nt is there made a distinction between ceremonial, civil and health laws? i agree that the moral law is continued in the new covenant. i am not a messianic believing in continuity of old and new covenants.

Re: Redeemed from the Law

We are redeemed from the whole law. It is written,

Romans 13:9-10
King James Version (KJV)
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
God simply desires that we Love. That we love Him with all our being. And that we demonstrate our love for Him by loving others as ourselves. This was the entire foundation, principle, and point of the law in it's entirety.
Galatians 5:14
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
When we stand before Jesus, we'll not be judged as to if we had kept this law or that law. We'll be judged as to if we had loved enough. If we had loved as He loves.
I Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Well, according to Mr. Stringfellow, in NT days it was just understood which Law was being referred to. I must say that I've always leaned toward Aquila's referred belief system, but obviously it isn't now ok for a Christian to murder--or ignore the 'Moral' Law--or the Civil...and I have been led into keeping the Dietary Law, although it is just more of a common-sense thing to me.

Anyway, Stringfellow declares that Hebrew is an understood language, and that Paul even declares these separate, @ "...should we then (break these other laws)..." (Didn't bring book today, sorry) The gist is that Christ came, and nullified the Ceremonial Law; and Stringfellow has treated most of your answering Scripture, above, I think...I'll bring the book tomorrow!
