Is TV now the norm in the UPCI home?
I just learned that a old time UPCI family have TV in their home. I was brought up in a very conservative church. We were not allowed to have monitors or DVD's until around 2004. We had a list of acceptable DVD's we could watch. Little House on the Prairie did not cut the list. I have been out of the UPCI since 2005. I am just curious of what the norm is now.

My recent experience, over the past decade, is that most do.
The real question now is, what size? :) |
Re: Is TV now the norm in the UPCI home?
Not only is it the "norm", but I can tell you of UPCI organizational officials that have 60 inch screens hanging on their wall with cable or satellite - NOT hearsay - I have seen it with my own eyes! It it no longer hidden in the closet! For those pastors that don't actually have a "TV" - they subscribe to NetFlix and/or Hula.
I personally do not have a TV in my home (well I have a "TV", but we get no channels and use it only for very generic type DVDs and videos) - this is just a decision that our family has made for ourselves. Some of the ministry seem to pick and choose which "suggestions" of the AOF that they wish to preach from their pulpit and/or enforce in their congregations. :girlytantrum |

As I type this, I am watching one of our DirecTV channels on my android phone.

I don't know how common it is for non UPC ministers to own tvs, but the church I grew up in was ACJCII and the pastor had a television. And probably every channel that anyone could have possibly gotten at the time.

So funny... our church preached against TV strongly... so we threw all 4 of ours out. Several years later we found out we were one of the only families that did not have a TV:heeheehee... We still don't, even though we are no longer UPC... We just decided that we liked our lives better without one... Actually living it instead of watching someone else live theirs in a box but I don't see anything wrong with anyone who wants one having one if they've got time to watch it. I know as my aged mother was less able to get out her TV brought her a lot of comfort.

I DO have a major problem when not having one is part of church doctrine. |
Re: Is TV now the norm in the UPCI home?
I know of UPCI churches that still preach against it and make you sign the no tv statement :heeheehee
In our current age of TV on computers, tablets and phones it just does not make a bit of sense IMHO!!! :smack |
Re: Is TV now the norm in the UPCI home?
TV is mostly garbage and there is a good chance you will get dirty digging through it so just put it where it belongs... In the trash! But I'm sure it's most of your gods so it will stay in your house...
