Financial Aid
 

I have a financial aid overpayment. I am not elligible (sp) for aid until I pay the overpayment. Am I also disqualified from receiving student loans?

Technically, yes, but interoffice disclosure is so bolluxed, this may not be true in practice. You would have to perjure yourself on the disclosure form, however; or you might try 'neglecting' that question...

What, what question? I want a loan, not a grant.

Yes; but it will have a question, along the lines of "do you have any outstanding loans?" that this would have to be considered part of. Your best path might be to appeal the "overpayment" decision, if you can provide some proof that you did not waste the $ (rent, living expenses for a student loan are considered "justifiable"), and are otherwise in good standing with the student loan program. The point there is to get the "repayment" adjusted into your normal loan repayments. I'd suggest feeling out the first couple officers, and find one who is sympathetic-sounding; but outside of fraud, if you are a full-time student, you should have a good case. Buying a new car with the $ would not be good, etc.

If the Obama Administration has its way, the country's universities and universities will be using its new financial aid "shopping sheet" as a regular part of student aid packets for the 2013-2014 school seasons. The form, designed to make loan shopping better and transparent, was presented by the Education Department on July 24.
