Bishop TD Jakes Addresses the Zimmerman Verdict

:doh

Quote:

Surprised by the "not guilty" verdict in the George Zimmerman case, Bishop T.D. Jakes and The Potter's House of Dallas hosted a panel to discuss it in their Sunday morning service. According to The Christian Post, the panel included legal and psychological professionals, all members of Jakes' church.
Quote:

"I am generally silent because I have an obligation as a pastor to bring you the word of God regardless of what is going on in the times … (but) it would be disingenuous of me to not tell you quite honestly and quite succinctly that I was stunned, shocked, [and] speechless about the outcome of this trial," Jakes told his congregation. "I think it is an oversimplification of the truth to say this is totally about racism," he said. "I think that all people should be concerned. All people of all colors should be concerned."
I'll bet the farm that Jakes didn't watch any of the trial or pay attention much. "Stunned, shocked and speechless about the outcome!?" How can you be when the State didn't make the case. Even some TM supporters agreed that the State's presentation was horrible and weak.

It gets even better...

Quote:

"Once you redefine something on the books (law), what happens when a woman is going through a parking garage and somebody follows her? And she's taken some kind of defense training and she tries to defend herself and she gets shot to death," Jakes insisted. "Now we have a case on the books that defends the one who shot them. ... Now you have changed the standard and even if you think it was right in this case, what happens to the precedence that you set for the next case? For someone that has no weapon and tries to fight back, do you get to kill me because I can fight?"
Again, I don't believe Jakes paid any attention to the facts and evidence of the case. TM supporters are hung up on this idea that following someone is a crime. THEY - and Jakes - are the one's trying to redefine the law. They're trying to criminalize GZ's following of TM.

While I'm really disappointed in his apparent ignorance of the facts of the trial and law, I'm not surprised. What Jakes did with his biased panel did nothing to help people accept the verdict and move on. It only stirred more resentment, bitterness and with that, was completely unBiblical and I'd say even sinful.

So much ignorance towards the facts in this case its horrible. I just want to go away. But like spoiled babies who didnt get their way, the media wont let it.

This statement makes me think two things.

1. TD has no earthly what happened in this case.
2. TD was asleep in class when they covered grammar and syntax in his primary school.

Bishop Jakes may of had his ear to the ground during the trial. Maybe he didn't. I wonder if any hispanic ministers will come out and say something similar to Jakes, but more like, "This is all about race. This trail was all about trying to convict an innocent man from hispanic decent in the murder of another human..." Zimmerman is being considered as a "White Hispanic".

Carlton Pearson (Yes I am quoting him) said it best.

"When GOD tries to bring revival to the quote unquote black church, we often miscarry it into a civil rights movement."

I have a CD where he said this. BUT.... CP's opinion doesn't matter anymore since he is now a Universalist...some would say. It's true...what he said was very true!

When it comes to racial accusations it doesn't have to be true.

Its sad that it is true. The blacks in this country try to use religion to empower their civil rights movements. They feel like it brings legitimacy to it. Just see the Nation of Islam.

And the KKK used to use religion to propgate their beliefs that whites were supreme. It's nuts. There is nothing that religion teaches about race aside from that whole love everyone equally thing. The word should be active, but it's suggestive to many.
