Re: Teens and "dating"???
There is nothing wrong with a guy liking a girl, and him "dating" her, no matter the age. What you need to do is show your son that there are things to do, and not to do. The bible instructs parents to show their kids what is right, not to control their every move. Although, there does need to be rules and guidelines and help him take steps in the relationship.
Let him build your trust. At 16, go on the "dates" with him. Let him and his girlfriend make their own plans, you just go along for the ride. Over time, give them some space. Drop them off at the restaurant instead of eating at a different table. By the time he is 17, you should allow him on dates by his self. Be open to listening how he feels. Don't talk, just listen. Be understanding and considerate of how he feels. It's his relationship, not yours. You just there to help him when he needs it. Don't hold mistakes against him, let let be a learning experience for him and help him understand what he has done is wrong, and help him set barriers. Don't demand them, but give him options, and allow him to make the better choice on his own. If you always make his decisions for him, and he never messes up as a kid, when he gets older, he wont know what to do and not to do because he has always had things handed to him. One of the signs of being a good parent is worrying if your a good parent or not. |
Re: Teens and "dating"???
I teach against "dating".
I teach "courtship". Dating is focused on having "fun". Courtship is focused on relationship. |
