little Isaiah was born on 2/18/14 seemingly a healthy baby boy. However, this past Sunday while we were at the church making peanut brittle he went into respiratory distress. Upon getting him to the hospital (and while they were preparing him for transport aboard the Halo Flight) his little heart went into VTach at more than 300 beats per minute. I stood with his father by his side while they had to shock his little heart. It responded by returning to the normal rhythm....thank you Jesus!

He is currently in the NICU at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, and so far every test that initially came back poorly has turned around and the doctors are saying that he is doing incredible. Again....Thank you Jesus!

That said, yesterday he had another episode (his heart rate over 300) but they were able to convert it with medication this time. They have given a possible diagnosis of WPW (Wolff Parkinson and White Syndrome).

Please help us pray that God will continue to heal and to strengthen.

bishop, this is a heartbreaking report. As a father and grandfather my heart goes out to the parents and of course to this beautiful little innocent baby. I will be praying for Isaiah. Please let his parents know that your posting means that people they will never meet in person all across the world will be praying for their son and them.

Bishoph, this sounds very similar to what my son (now 5) was born with. His was diagnosed as SVT. Super Ventricular Tachycardia.

We had a dozen emergency room trips and a dozen hospital stays in the first 18 months.

300+ pbm heartrate was standard early on. Its shocking and scary and you feel utterly helpless.

In our case this past summer my little guy had an ablasion that has fixed the problem. I am not sure about W-P&W syndrome as for treament etc.

We did meds that included Amneoterone (sp) and Propranalol for 5 years.

I will be praying for the family. As a dad that has walked that path, I know how scary it is. keep us posted!

Ferd.....thanks for your prayers and perspective. I had told Isaiah's dad about your experience and even went back an scanned through the posts over the last five years.....(it's hard to believe I've been on AFF that long....lol) The events seem very similar, and the treatment nearly identical. They have told them that he will (if his body responds well) probably be on the medicines at least until he is four or five and then he will have to have the ablation procedure.

We never had it called WPW but as I read about it, its clear that is very similar to our issues. in fact, WPW can cause SVT, which is what our little guy had.

As far as I know, 60 to 80% of infants clear at at 1, at least that is my understanding of SVT. I also have a son (9 now) who was born with Chaotic Atrial Tachycardia (sp). That also had a high chance of clearing at age 1. He actually cleared at 9 months and was released from any further followup with the cardiologist at age 5.

It is scary. No two ways about it. My wife quit work to be home with Jack and we watched him closely, checked his heart constantly and he slept with us until he was 4. of course we gave him meds every 4 hours including over night until he was past 2 then every 8 hours until he was 4 then twice a day until surgery.

You really dont know if they are in tachycardia. for us it was just parent intuition/ God honestly.

The good news is, you can stay on top of it and get good results.

some other things that come to mind.

if they treat with Amneoterone (sp) I really cant spell at all... LOL)

They will need to find a good eye dr that understands the drug and its indications for kids.

It is a very safe drug and very forgiving but there are side effects. It can lead to build up in the eyes of something that can do damage. we took our guys to the eye dr every year to get that checked. We never had an issue with that.

Second, they will need to keep him out of major sun exposure... it can turn him blue! LOL. we were pretty good about that so again, didnt have that happen.

Third, it can mess with the thyroid so it is good to make sure those levels are checked. in the end, we did surgery this past year because Jacks Thyroid levels were starting to change. That was the reason, and not because of age.

a lot of drs want to do surgery at 4 or 5 just because. Im not sure that is the best approach. There is a balance between, the heart being big enough to give the drs room and being so big that it requires more energy to do the ablasion.

Thinking you must be referencing amiodarone (generic medication), Name brand is Cordarone.
