You Just Never Know .... what a day holds...

Today was an emotional, scary day for us. I had read Jediwilli's post this morning, and thanked the Lord for the gift of life, as he had mentioned the fact that he helped to save a life, and how often we take our gift of life for granted.

Shortly afterwards, I received a panicked phone call from a friend of my daughter's. Their 4H horse group was having a gaming day at the local fairgrounds arena. My daughter had been violently bucked off her horse, and landed on her head, and then shoulders. Thankfully she had a helmet on. She was dazed after hitting the ground, and couldn't remember much of anything. She was slurring her words, and not coherent. We were 30 minutes away, and the 4H leader was also away at the time. I immediately texted a few friends and family to pray as we headed over there.

En route, received a phone call from the 4H leader who reported that she had raced back to the fairgrounds to check on her, and that she had begun to regain her memory of the event, and was able to get up and move around without any problems. She did not have any change in her pupils, and no immediate swelling, no reports of nausea or vomiting. So, we contemplated taking her to the ER... but because we have no insurance, and she seemed to be fine, we decided to take her home, and keep a close eye on her.

Thankfully, 7 hours later, she is doing fine, no nausea, no pupil change, and only just very, very sore.

It certainly makes you realize just how one phone call can change the course of your day, and certainly brought home to us even more how precious and wonderful the gift of life is. I was so thankful to hug my daughter when I finally was able to see her, and praise the Lord that she was ok, without any broken bones, or serious injuries. I appreciated the prayers of the few I was able to contact in the wild ride we took over there to get her.

God is good!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Praise the Lord for his protection!

She woke up this morning sore, but determined to get back on the horse! So, she left for the entire week of horse camp this afternoon. It is a very intensive course that involves 4-5 hours at a time of being on the back of a horse. She is going to wait a day or two to actually ride again, but she is going to be part of the classes at least. Her neck was very sore, and she was moving slowly, but thankfully, no broken bones, concussion or other injuries. We have much to be thankful for!

Something like that is scary and yes- how one phone call can change your day. It is tough when one has no insurance.

Thanks for sharing an update & praise God that she is only sore!

Glad she is okay! I've been thrown off a horse about three times. Not a pleasant experience to hit the ground. One time my horse was spooked by something, never have figured out what spooked her, and took off running through a bunch mesquite trees. The only thing I could do was put my head down, close to the saddle horn, and let her run it out. I thank God she didn't stop short and throw me over her head.

I got thrown off a horse once and broke my ankle. The doc said everyone breaks their arms when falling off horses, not their ankles! Ha!
