as long as they are not valuable they might be accepted
otherwise a greedy preacher might chastise them for not giving the money to the church. :heeheehee

They could get a tattoo with each others name on it! jk....

Maybe a patch they wear on their shirt that says "Married"?

not so much thinking of a symbol to show the world "we're married" but just a gift

Ah, i see. by token i thought u meant something they could wear to show the world they were taken. if you just mean a gift then just about anything sounds acceptable...

I've heard of beautiful watches with diamonds on them given by many Apostolics. You know, watches are accepted, but rings aren't. :)

Or perhaps on a more serious note, you could each exchange Bibles. I've heard of that being done too.

I think exchanging meaningful gifts is nice. We exchanged small, engraved Bibles and we both wrote notes in the front for each other. We still have those and treasure them, even though we bought rings later.

If you wear watches, you could always do that in place of rings. The bonus is that watches can be engraved on the back.

Here are some good suggestions from The Wedding Channel:

a beautiful jewelry box
a bottle of extravagant perfume
an antique hair ornament
a pretty journal
a leather desk set
an exquisitely bound book, personally inscribed
a monogrammed handkerchief
an antique desk clock
an engraved money clip
A bi-plane ride for two, complete with old fashioned goggles
A special photograph in a frame
A love letter written on a beautiful card
An original poem or love song
A tree sapling (traditional in Bermuda and the Netherlands)
Joint personalized stationery
A book of love poetry, inscribed
Tickets to your favorite opera or sports event
A cassette or CD compiled of favorite love songs

Your post sparked an idea, Miss B. ... My husband loves trees. Our anniversary is coming up. Perhaps I should get him a tree sapling for an anniversary present. That would be pretty unique, I think.... We could plant the tree in a special place with a nice park bench close by. It would be a nice memory for years to come.
