Painting Countertops

We are in the process of redoing our kitchen. Painting the walls,
cabinets, new wood flooring. I wanted to get new countertop also,
but sadly, our funds ran a little low to add that. A friend (thanks
Sis Scarlett) mentioned to me that she had heard you could paint
your countertops. I have looked at a few youtube clips to get
an idea and wow it is amazing!

Just wondering if any of you have tried this? Thanks! :)

It can be done, but you need good ventilation and it is a lot of preparation. You need, at least, 4 to 6 coats of sealant. I would never be satisfied with two coats, and I would use 120-grit sandpaper.

Just looked at the video. It is good instruction. I would use the edge of a feather for the veining. The brush is going to, at some points, give you too thick of a line. She did a really good job - very impressive. :thumbsup

I would not recomend it if you use your countertops the paint will fade and peal off and knifes willl leave lines in it its a mess to clean up. however if you dont use them much go ahead. Ive been a carpenter over 20 years and taught carpentry school for 10 years

It isn't going to peel off if you do the prep work. After you clean, you have to rinse very well and then wipe down with denatured alcohol to remove the grease. That is key.

It can be done using a process called zolatone ,it's sprayed on using an airless sprayer I believe ( I haven't watched him do it),but I have a contractor friend who does cabinets,,back splashes and walls (great for bathrooms) ,counter tops, it will not wear off and you would be hard pressed to chip it,lots of designs, very reasonable prices too ,he uses sherwIn williams products. He did my cabinets from a dark brown to a white with a grain in it ,very happy ,I use him for all of my customers jobs.

I cant believe an Apostolic would want to paint their countetop. I would think you would want to leave it whatever color the material is naturally. Otherwise aren't you telling God that this material was not good enough as it is?

That's not Apostolic, that's Haight Ashbury in the 1960s.
