44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

God begins drawing the soul through a prevenient grace. This grace awakens the soul to it's need of a Savior and begins conviction over sin.

Now, it is widely debated among theologians as to if this prevenient grace is resistible or not. Regardless of what theological camp you might side with... God always makes the first move in accordance to His Sovereign will and grace.

We have a free will to make our choice, but first we are drawn by Him through His grace and mercy.
