Social drinking?
Yea or Nay?
Of course y'all know how I would feel. Do you find it acceptable? |
Re: Social drinking?
Yea! I've been know to share a mug at Starbucks.

Re: Social drinking?
No. The term "slippery slope" is used a lot in jest here, but it's true. What starts as social drinking leads to other things.

Nay. I heard enough preaching growing up against any. Brother Hyde always said every alcoholic starts out as a social drinker.

Re: Social drinking?
Although scripture doesn't explicitly teach against drinking socially and some might would even argue that Paul suggested it to Timothy. There is enough teaching against the effects of alcohol that we can teach against it. Not to mention there are so many coming out of drugs and alcohol addiction that it would probably destroy them to face it within the church. Whether or not it is a sin for certain, many may argue, but it is very harmful and I can't find any good.

Re: Social drinking?
For a time a couple years ago, I would drink a glass of wine. Mostly with a couple friends at dinner or just my wife and I in the evening. I became convicted when one of the friends used that liberty to become drunk and started drinking hard liquor.
I regret ever allowing it. |

The Bible plainly teaches against drunkeness, not occasional drinking in moderation. |
