This guy isn't Pentecostal, because he is a Baptist.

Oh I know that. I just think it's weird... he seems like he's almost there...

Pretty sad when IFB preachers are more alive than a lot of Pentecostals nowadays. I spent several hours watching baptists on YouTube last night. People shouting, glory hallelujahs, people crying out for mercy, people hitting the altars WITHOUT ALTAR CALLS EVEN BEING NECESSARY... things that are becoming out of place in many of today's Pentecostal churches. I also perused numerous Pentecostal church service videos, and they look more and more like they're losing it. Too much emphasis on flash and working up a crowd with jazz music and feel good pop psychology sermons.

I know it's not universal, but I do see a trend...

Can you really get a good understanding of how every service goes from watching one or two services? I think not...

Speaking of just my church it varies dramatically from month to month what happens in our services. Sometimes its fairly low key, sometimes it's not. One does not always have to shout and be very exuberant to be alive.

I think that Esaias is just generally speaking. I agree with him in many ways. I have noticed so many churches have gone to colored mood lights and smoke machines, in essence and unknowingly I think it is to create an artificial move of God. I'll still stick with the old way. If people aren't converted by the word of God then nothing can.

It's not just shouting and being exuberant (although dead things are not animated...). It's the content of preaching. It's the earnestness in the preacher's demeanor. It's people crying out and hitting altars in the middle of sermons with no need to be cajoled or prodded at an altar call.

Things that used to be a hallmark of Pentecostal meetings, that seem to be less common.

I also find it interesting to discover numerous baptist congregations that are more Pentecostal than quite a few Pentecostal congregations.

As for the ebb and flow, yes I know that is normal. But if I search 30 random pentecostal meetings, and 30 random baptist meetings, I can clearly see a trend that is... interesting.

Oh, and a youtube search for 'baptist' doesn't pull up PAGES of "baptist hair styling tips", unlike just searching "apostolic"...

Exactly. I watched a service from the late 80s or early 90s from World Harvest Church (Rod Parsley). Dwight Thompson (COG Cleveland) was preaching. If you just changed the appearance of the people, get rid of makeup and jewlry and cut some of the guys' hair, it was practically indistinguishable from a typical UPC "big church" service of today.

I think the apostolics are about 20 years behind the charismatic/contemporary curve, but catching up fast. Which I don't think bodes well.

Although, let me say Dwight Thompson does know how to deliver a good sermon at times. His oratorical skills cannot be denied.

I assume by "more alive" you mean more theatrical yelling and scraming while preaching and I think judging sermons and preachers by that is a huge trap.

Preachers should be preaching for results not response. Response is what those "more alive" preachers are going for.

CC1, I never saw a preacher do "scraming" when they preach?

Sadly there are those who believe the results are the response.
