Polygamy causing genetic disorders

Did anyone else read the article on MSN that said polygamy was causing
genetic disorders in the Arizona area where the LDS sect has been for the last 72 years? It is a shame. Its not like they are marrying their brothers either but they are marrying cousins.

I'm not defending polygamy...but it sounds like the cause is marrying in the family...not marrying more than one woman. *shrug*

I read that there was so much inbreeding among members with the same DNA bacause this sect is basically cut off from the outside.I am not condoning polygamy either.I just thought the article was interesting from a genetic point of view.Several of the children have been affected.

I have seen news stories where this group were allowing Uncles to marry their neices. Colorado City is the hot bed for polygamy in AZ and they are a strange breed of people even for polygamist.

I have no evidence to stand on this but I am pretty sure it has something to do with inbreeding more than Polygamy. If you have children with close relations then lack of genetic diversity causes such problems. I have a friend that is Pakistani and married to her first cousin. Her children are fine but that is not an excepted practice here. We are so blessed.

Also I do not support polygamy. I would feel sorry for any man that had to take that many women shopping.

He he he.
