God created evil
IS. 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness, I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things. What are your initial thoughts on the fact that God created evil?? |
Re: God created evil
My initial thoughts are,"What is their definition of evil."
Evil can mean destruction or calamity...It doesn't mean necessarily, that God has moral failings or is exhibiting aspects of other gods such as Loki the Norse god of mischief. There were times that He was going to judge and destroy and because someone interceded and repented the Bible says that,"God repented the evil...." Was God's judgement evil? No. God's judgement is holy and righteous but what He was about to cause to befall that that incurred His wrath was not something good...It was not a blessing and like I said, calamity is another word used for evil. Original: רעה רע Transliteration: ra‛ râ‛âh Phonetic: rah BDB Definition: bad, evil (adjective) bad, disagreeable, malignant bad, unpleasant, evil (giving pain, unhappiness, misery) evil, displeasing bad (of its kind - land, water, etc) bad (of value) worse than, worst (comparison) sad, unhappy evil (hurtful) bad, unkind (vicious in disposition) bad, evil, wicked (ethically) in general, of persons, of thoughts deeds, actions evil, distress, misery, injury, calamity (noun masculine) evil, distress, adversity evil, injury, wrong evil (ethical) evil, misery, distress, injury (noun feminine) evil, misery, distress evil, injury, wrong evil (ethical) Origin: from H7489 TWOT entry: 2191a,2191c Part(s) of speech: Strong's Definition: From H7489; bad or (as noun) evil (naturally or morally). This includes the second (feminine) form; as adjective or noun: - adversity, affliction, bad, calamity, + displease (-ure), distress, evil ([-favouredness], man, thing), + exceedingly, X great, grief (-vous), harm, heavy, hurt (-ful), ill (favoured), + mark, mischief, (-vous), misery, naught (-ty), noisome, + not please, sad (-ly), sore, sorrow, trouble, vex, wicked (-ly, -ness, one), worse (-st) wretchedness, wrong. Re: God created evil
God is the creator.
Evil is kind of like darkness, it is a state of being but is also a prison. God created both light and darkness. |
Re: God created evil
Many people mistake the benevolence (the will to do good/the will to benefit) of God as meaning there is no malevolence (the will to do evil/the will to harm) with Him, which is simply not true.
God is jealous, and may deal with His own creation as He sees fit, and if there is some aspect of His creation that He deems worthy to destroy, from the human point of view, when it comes, it appears that God is acting in a malevolent way toward His people. This is what causes a lot of people to dismiss the Bible and the God of the Bible, because they've been led to believe something about God and the Bible that isn't true. Sinners seem to think they have the right to judge God for the things in the Bible they find unpalatable or unbecoming of God, instead of fearing Him and repenting lest God do unto them as He did unto those He destroyed in ages past. |
