Illegals depress wages
According to the National Association of Home Builders, more than 56% of America’s developers are reporting labor shortages, which is forcing them to increases wages and improve working conditions to attract new talent.
In fact, according to Ted Wilson of Residential Strategies Inc. construction costs have risen by 30% this year—the majority of which is due to higher wages and increased overtime pay. That is, companies are being forced to hire American workers, and pay wages at fair market value. Why? Because President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration is preventing them from hiring illegal aliens, who undercut the labor market, shortchanging American workers. https://www.nationaleconomicseditori...age-increases/ |
Re: Illegals depress wages
The problem is finding people who are willing, to labor in these kinds of jobs... Even with better pay they probably fare just as well staying on welfare...

Its a myth that only illegal aliens want to do carpentry, tile setting, carpetlaying, roofing, bricklaying, plumbing, sheet rocking, painting, etc. |
Re: Illegals depress wages
When I joined the trades in '82, we, of all ethnic backgrounds ran them. The illegals saw us making the "big bucks", moved in and wrecked the unions(in CA).
This new breed of non union workers have lowered the building standards quite a bit. There is no training for them anymore. |
Re: Illegals depress wages
They make today what a Journeyman made in '82...with no benefits.
Nobody wants to do this work without benefits, unless they want to learn just enough to start their own company. It is a revolving door of rookies now, with few old timers to run work. |
