Annual thanksgiving project
 
Well, the first of October kicks off our annual thanksgiving outreach program.

The youth of our church started this three years ago, working in conjunction with another congregation in an adjoining state.

What we do is provide an entire thanksgiving dinner to families. We provide a turkey, potatoes and gravy mixes, two cans of vegetables, a box of stuffing, a can of cranberry sauce and a pumpkin pie.

The great thing is that we have about 30-40 local businesses that partner with us in sponsoring the dinners so all we have to do is physically pick up the goods, box them in attractive boxes, put in a church invite and deliver them to the families selected. It has turned out to be quite popular.

We have two locations that we work. Last year in our Idaho location we helped out 600 families with dinners. We worked together with the local school counselors who coordinated with the applications and sent us the contacts. Locally we did not have quite the participation so the outreach was considerably smaller! LOL

This year though, we have managed to tap into the Air Base here. The First sergeants are working with us and we are to meet with their council on Friday to coordinate with them the program. This is great because they will be supplying us with the names!!! No more cold contacts!!

We hope to help out between 50 to 100 military families, not counting the local community families that we can reach.

This has began to catch fire in our youth group and they are excited to help this year.

I saw the website to the Idaho location recently. So, no $ is needed?
