Chronicles of Narnia-C.S. Lewis

So, admittedly I have never been drawn to Lewis much, despite his popularity in the main stream. The popular movie based from his writings came out right before I got in church, and I saw it in the theatre. I remember being able to pick up on the "Christian" symbolism, but that's about all I remember from it. My son and I have a half hour drive back home through the week when I pick him up from school, closest solid Christian school to us. He loves to listen to stories on Audible, and I thought that perhaps Chronicles of Narnia would be a good listen. I knew that Focus on the Family did a dramatized version of it some years ago. So far we have listed to 4 or 5 chapters, and I'm disturbed. I think we are going to find something else to listen to until I look a little deeper into its content. Anyone else familiar with the Chronicles or Lewis in general? I'm surprised that something so filled with magic and sorcery is so popular in Christian circles. Guess that shouldn't be so surprising...

I read Narnia as a young child and did not pick up on any allegorical Christian symbolism. I read it again probably around 10-12, after reading about CS Lewis and was struck by how much there was.
My own children have read it and we had no concern.
Insofar as magic and sorcery is concerned, I would say these are allegories for the spirit world we do not perceive.

Just as a side note, go read or listen to The Last Battle.
It is very prescient to what is happening in our world, today.

If you DISCUSS with your kids what they read/listen to, you won't have any problems.

Unless you already have problems. In which case Narnia ain't one of them.

I'd recommend the BBC dramatized audio version, personally.

cons,

You’re surprised? Rilly? Apostolics love Disney, so Narnia shouldn’t be a surprise.

I do see a difference. HP glorifies wizardry and the occult. Although it may be present in CoN, I’ve not seen it glorified, YET.

The Magician's Nephew is the first book in the series. I loved it and am glad that I happened to purchase a huge book containing all of the stories. Don’t miss the first in the series. :thumbsup
