Maybe they did it because it was more natural in a relationship vs attendence discipleship model. Maybe this should be the ideal to strive for and not just a "Plan B" when times get tough. |

Chester Wright:
DO WE WANT TO “PASTOR” DISCIPLES OF JESUS OR RELIGIOUS “PEW-SITTERS”? Biblically and by definition a “Disciple of Jesus” is a “taught and trained one, with a personal relationship with HIM.” Therefore, by definition, it is impossible to make a “disciple” by “preaching.” Preaching is “proclamation”; teaching is “explanation.” So, Pastor, if you want “pew-sitters,” just preach to them all the time. BUT, if you want a church full of Disciples, the ONLY WAY that is going to happen is by you teaching them - A LOT!!! Yeah, I know, teaching “CULLS” the crowd! That’s why we preach most of the time because we are trying to hang onto the “chaff” (the “ungodly”) that the “taught word” would shift out. BUT, whose Church is it? Jesus’ ministry ALWAYS culled the crowd. He NEVER “closed the back door”! No, it is not right to “run people off”! That’s not our job! But, IF we teach HIS WORD, then the Word will thresh and winnow the sheaves until ONLY the wheat is left. THAT IS GOD’S PLAN! THAT IS GOD’S WILL! So, what’s your choice? NO, that’s right, we do not get to have a choice. They are HIS PEOPLE and He wants them to be DISCIPLES! HIS CHOICE is for to TEACH to the saved! Preach to the lost; teach the saved! What He told the “rich, young ruler” was spoken out of LOVE (Mark 10:21), yet He knew in advance what the man would do when he heard the Lord’s words! We are NEITHER GOD NOR THE SAVIOR! We MUST please Him, and Him alone So, are we going to do “our thing”? OR, HIS THING? |

Elder Wright:
WHERE HAS TRUE APOSTOLIC PREACHING GONE TO? When and how did the desire for eloquence become the substitute for being a conduit of spiritual impartation? (1 Corinthians 1:17-18 AMP) When did sermonizing oratory become the substitute for being an oracle of God? (Jeremiah 23) When did a seeking for excellence in pulpitory performance become a facade to mask the lack of the manifestation of God’s power? (1 Corinthians 2:1-5 AMP) When and how has human persuasiveness replaced the conviction of the Holy Ghost? (Acts 2:36-39) When did we begin to preach “another gospel” about “another Jesus” promoted by “another spirit” for the purpose of building a crowd or “growing a Church” rather than being men and women “OF GOD”? (Galatians 1:6-7; 2 Corinthians 11:1-4) |
