Emotional and Fleshly?
 

Well I didn't know what to call this thread so I just guessed. I will try to explain how I came up with this title.

In reading some other threads lately I have been bothered by some of the things I have read. Like the story of some one doing flips during a service. I am only 29 and I can remember a time that if stuff like this happened it would have been addressed from the pulpit instantly.

However times have changed. I was told by several ministers in the last 5 years to "start shouting in the flesh and finish in the spirit". I have seen things that were referred to as worship and "shouting" that had no place in the house of God in my opinion. For instance I have seen young ministers doing what I can only describe as a Chuck Berry slide across the floor during a service.

Also the last few large conferences I attended you could not hear the minister over the constant clapping and yelling. I know of many people younger then me who don't think you can have church unless it is so emotionally charged that you go home physically drained from dancing and shouting.


When did this happen? Have we gotten to a point to where we must rely on our flesh and an emotionally pumped service to make ourselves think we had a move of God?

This is what comes of an emphasis on experience instead of relationship. And those whose lives are founded upon experience, with no relationship, will not stand when those inevitable storms of life blow through.

Very, very true!

I believe this is exactly what's being discussed on a couple other threads too. The change.....is experience is being elevated over relationship with Jesus Christ!

I've stated it before, but sometimes it's hard to recognize what's happening when you are too close to the situation.

The last youth conference I attened a couple years ago a young lady was down by the stage doing dry land fish flops on the concert floor. I had never seen anything like it in all my years. She looked possessed and there was nothing holy and wonderful about it at all.

Guys were taking off at warp speed knocking people, chairs and anything in their way down. It was like a race to see who could do the most outlandish thing. The speaker was screaming "make a difference, be different."

I was praying that they would be different.

I remember being shocked at "tie-slides" about 10-15 years ago... Guys would hurl themself across the platform on their chest and somehow did not choke themselves on their ties. There was more than one person doing it too...

Wow, I guess I left before this type of thing. We only had windmills, pew back walking, jerking, dancing and running. I love emotion filled worship, yet with decency and consideration of those arounds us.

I don't worship wildly like I used to. There was a time when I did those things. Now, I just don't see it as necessary. Some would say I'm just backslid. I still talk in tongues, raise my hands, etc. But I just don't see a need to scream anymore. Interestingly, I feel more emotional balance in my life.

I'm not kidding! This was at Cleveland church (Nelson Neyland's) and a visiting church brought a bunch of people and they were all doing this...

Lord, I hate that so much, much, much, much, much!!!!

I would rather be kicked out of position than fake a move of God!

I did see a guy actually flip in the air! He is now sitting in the dark and thinks he's Spiderman!

That could be funny, if it wasn't so sad!

We have come to a place and have been there for a long while - responding to how things are said and not what is being said. We have been conditioned how and when to respond.

It makes me want to cry and find someone that will listen.
