Saints Losing Faith in Preachers - Stop Attending Church, Why?

I live in Baton Rouge ,La the home of Jimmy Swaggart. I have talked to several people in the last few months who went to his church before his fall.
They say they have never darkened the door of any church since this happened.
I have never put preaches on a level as Jesus Christ, Its sad some do.
While I respect them, I know they are human.
Trust me I don't blame them for not going to JS church, I just say go to church and serve the Lord. My pastor could fail tomorrow , it would not shake my faith.
I am in a relationship with Jesus Christ, these people had a relationship with religion.

Our daughter almost married his grandson, who is now the heir apparent at JSM. I'm SOOOOO glad that didn't happen!

Ahemmm... is this a good thread to discuss a system that deifies the role of a single leader of the church??

That is a sad situation. It seems that the pastors blessed with the most natural gifts (personality, oratory, etc) are the ones that affect the most people when they fall.

People seem to be drawn and kept by their personalities more than the gospel they preach and then when they fall those peoples faith is shattered.

We have the same approach to ministry. I love and respect ministers but don't worship them nor see them as infallible. My confidence is in Christ.

My father was preaching a tent revival in Winsboro, La. in the early 50's Jimmy's dad helped sponser the meeting and Jimmy played the piano and sang some. Will that pass????? Also Dad & Nancy Harmon went to A crusade in Miami before the problem and they all went out to eat. Dad invited me but I didn't go the grass was growing and didn't want to miss it.:winkgrin
