Divers Kinds of Tongues

I'm not sure if this topic has been addressed on here yet, but I'm sure curious about it.

I understand Divers kinds of tongues to be "different tongues" or some may call it "different prayer languages" God has given a person. Also, in Corinthians it says that that tongues only edifies the person speaking it, unless there is an interpretation.

So, what good is diver's kinds of tongues? Does anyone know why they are a gift of the spirit, if it does not help others?

Thank you Bro. Hoover! I'm not sure this is exactly what I was looking for, but I appreciate you taking an interest in this thread.

So, divers kinds of tongues produces faith, it edify's the person speaking and it is a sign of praying in the Holy Ghost. So, do you think that's all there is to it?

Yes, I understand that. But what if your "prayer language" or you "tongues" change or rather you have many different tongues you speak in...I just don't understand the purpose of it?

CareyM,
I've noticed as I've grown in the Lord that my tongues never stay the same, especially after coming through some of my hardest struggle and trial. I've spoken in a totally different language each time.

I went through a season of singing an intense prayer, sounding very Jewish and then interpreting the song to myself. Very powerful words of encouragement from the Lord and confirmation of His power and care.

All I can say is, for me, I like that. I wouldn't want to pray and say the same thing over and over for years on end.

And yes, it does edify me, greatly!

Could not divers kinds of tongues, mean different usages of tongues such tongues used to for giving a message in a congregational setting and tongues one uses in their private prayer times ?

I personally think it does, Brother Scott. 1Co 13:1 "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels......"

I believe we speak more than just men's language, but also the language of angels. This would certainly be "praises to God" I believe.

Tongues of angels could maybe mean that Holy Ghost inspired tongues are of a heavenly origin ?

I'm so glad to hear this PO...the same thing has happened to me over the years, I just have never quite understood why.
