Literal 24 Hour Days ?

Then God said,Let there be light;and there was light. And God saw the light the light, that it was good;and God divided the light from the darkness.God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.GEN.1:3,4,5 NKJV
Are the seven days of creation ,literal 24 hour days or just a literay frame for which the creation account is draped ?Since the sun wasn't created till verses 14-19 is the first day ambiguous ?

I don't know.... You can't say the days are literal then say God creating the Sun mid week is ambiguous. :)

I am almost positive the days were not literal one-after-another 24 hour days. In fact, I see Genesis chapter 1 as being a condensed history of the Universe ending AT the end, which is to say the 7th day. Then in chapter 2 we go BACK to the 6th day, which is where I believe we all are yet.

I forgot about that ,I'm desiring to look into subjects like this.

Scott...how about Alaska?

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 09:12 PM

Alaska ?I've never tried baked Alaskan ? Is it a Cajun dish ?

Trouvere 07-23-2007 09:29 PM

no that would be Alaskan Sauce Piquant.

haha...no really some places on the earth get more day light than others.

Scott Hutchinson 07-23-2007 09:31 PM

Yes seriously how do they divide Day and Night in Alaska when they have the light all the time ?

Bro Scott i have no doubt that God could have accomplished these things in a 24 hour period. But i also doubt that this was what happened.

Gen: 1: 11-13 it says that God let the earth bring forth herb yeilding seed and trees yeilding fruit. If God allowed the earth to bring it forth, and allowed nature to take its course.it could not have taken place in 24 hours.

But there was no moisture before the 6th day so how could the earth have brought forth on its own?

Gen:1
[11] And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
[12] And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
[13] And the evening and the morning were the third day.

In Gen 1 : 21-23 did God create these creatures and cause them to multiply and fill the seas in a 24 hour period? It says he let the fowls multiply.Did he allow nature to takes its course here and the fowls multiply in a natural way?

[21] And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
[22] And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
[23] And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

Thanks Tech I hadn't thought of that. You know I'll be honest I've never really studied this before ,I guess I was too busy studying typical pentecostal subjects to pay anything like this any attention.
