Have you heard this one?
A few months ago I started a thead with what people perceived apostolics to be. Not to rehash because everyone has their own option. Plus it is a good excuse to check the archives.
In that thread I mentioned a co-worker who gave me her definition of apostolic pretty much confirmed with an average outsider would label an apostolic. Here is a twist I never saw coming. The same lady gave me her definition of what an apostolic is has a different defintion for pentecostals. She is sittiing in the break room telling us about a conversation between she and her sister about the coulottes (sp? to tired to check) she wore to work. My co-worker said my "sister took one look at me and said that I looked like a pentecostal". Has anyone heard that being a part of the definition of ''PENTECOSTAL"? The key word is "Pentecostal" not "apostolic". I'll admit that is the first time I've ever heard coulottes (again sp?) indentified with pentecostals. Has anyone else heard similar remarks? What are the ramifications when a pentecostal's is defined as such? I'm sorry if I disapoint the masses if they expect a acerbic cut against pentecostals. I am methodical in my research. Most who know me know I'm pretty solid on research. There is not enough anectdotal evidence to suggest society thinks all pentecostal women wear coulottes(I would not be offended if someone corrects my spelling). I hope to provide an interesting topic. |

But, since the key word is "Pentecostal," very often to the outsider, depending on the region of the country, there is no difference. |

coulottes are allowed by some pentecostal pastors and are worn by the women in those churches.
Other pentecostal pastors preach against culottes as a split legged garment or mens apparel and there fore the women of their churches gotta sneakl around if they wear them. Men's apparell....sheeshhhh...like a man would wear ladies culottes. |
They would be identified as Pentecostal around these parts. Between Pentecostals when one is "spotted" they often say "There's a Penny!"

Speaking of culottes, my kids were here for dinner yesterday and we were talking .... reminiscing around the table. I always love that. :) My daughter who played a number of sports in school was saying how much she hated having to wear those things.
My son said that some of the boys used to laugh and joke about how they loved the fact the Pentecostal girls wore them because you could see up their legs, etc. Our daughter was given permission to wear gym shorts in Grade 10. We relented and allowed her to do that. Well, her brothers were allowed to after all. ;) She loved sports and played basketball, badminton, softball, volleyball, etc. during high school but she was saying that basketball pretty much 'defined' her in HS. The gym/basketball shorts she wore really were more modest and made more sense than culottes. |
Anyone ever have to wear culottes with a flap or piece of material over the front and back so it looked like a skirt?!:killinme

I guess they would want to if they were trying to look like a woman. I know a young man who dresses like a woman even to the undies and makeup, jewelery and hairstyle. :roseglasses |
