Cold War Resumed?
MOSCOW — President Vladimir Putin said Friday that he had ordered the military to resume regular long-range flights of strategic bombers, news agencies reported, returning to a practice that ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Speaking as Russian and Chinese forces held major war games exercises for the first time on Russian territory, Putin said a halt in long-range bombers' flights after the Soviet collapse had affected Russia's security as other nations had continued such missions — an oblique reference to the United States. "I have made a decision to resume regular flights of Russian strategic aviation," Putin was quoted as saying by Russian agencies. "We proceed from the assumption that our partners will view the resumption of flights of Russia's strategic aviation with understanding," Putin was quoted as saying. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,293588,00.html |
Russia has seen it's economic fortunes turn around with the demand for oil in recent years and the development of their oil fields.
This new found money has empowered Putin to try and resurrect Russia as a world player in military matters. He knows that for Russia to have clout in the world they have to flex military muscle. That is bad news for the USA and the Russian people who could sure use those resources to improve things domestically. America desperately needs to rebuild it's military to adequate numbers to handle the new dangers that the world is presenting. We need enough full time military pesonnel that we are not sending the reserves and National Guard to War Zones for extended periods as we have had to do in Iraq and Afghanistan. |

Do you think the proposed US missile base in Poland and the Czech Republic could be pushing Putin in this direction? I haven't heard the latest developments on this project.

Those flights are not cheap to keep up. That requires a tremendous amount of resources. You guys hit it on the head when you talked about the Russian economy picking up. I think they would have never stopped the flights, or the Cold War in general if the old Soviet economy could have paid for it.

yeah, it is back. , problem is he US is too busy to co-operate
all things considered......welcome to the end time |
Did the COld War ever end?????????????????

You can't blame Putin in face of the "in your face" military presence right up against your borders. He is only reacting to what he sees as a possible threat, especially in light of our perceived military agression here and there. This President has made so many mistakes in regards to international relations. I will be soooooooo glad when he is finally GONE. |
