Is there such a Church?

Is there a church where all of the intricacies of standards are not taught?
Where Biblical standards of modesty are taught and lived?
Where the Pastor loves the Saints and the Saints love the Pastor?
Where Acts 2:38 is taught as Peter taught it as the keys to the kingdom in response to the people's question: "What shall we do?"
Where just believing is not enough because Satan himself believes and trembles?

If you know of such a church, please tell me about it here. If that Church exists, I think it would be more like the Church of Acts than any church I have ever known.

It seems that when people are not so strict on the standards that they move away from Acts 2:38. I don't want to move away from Acts 2:38 to "only believe" - but sometimes all of the teaching about standards that are not Biblical seems to be error.

I am a Newbie and do not wish to express any more thoughts at this time regarding standards. I would like to learn about churches that others attend.

I've asked myself the same question...

Welcome to the club, January.

Every church I have been part of has had some sort of standard to define modesty. This particular word is one that begs to be defined and expounded upon. I seriously doubt you will be able to find a that doesn't have some sort of standard for modesty, but I wish you luck.

JE, this is about my 3rd attempt to answer your original post- everything I've tried to say just ended up sounding rather lame next to your very sincere and earnest question. The things others have said are very good, and Rico sounds like a guy that's walked a little more than a mile or two in this world.

Even if you were looking for a bowling league there would be all kinds of standards and cultural things for you to think about. Here are some important things to consider: you only get one chance at this life. That's all. The choices you make today will define who you will be later on as well. There are of course opportunities to start fresh- but you never get to go back in time and really do it over again.

Something else, you are a child of God. You deserve a good and uplifting environment within which to grow. The churches that are around you exist to provide that environment as a service to you. It is their duty in the Kingdom of God to do this for you. Of course, once you've settled in, YOU become a part of that church and it becomes your duty to serve with the same sense of selflessness that any other child of God deserves.

Our fellowship is still very young. Though we practice some very ancient Christian rites, we're still just really pulling the instructions out of the box for ourselves right now. Every generation has to do this. Hopefully we can learn from our predecessors and grow from their experiences.

The church you seek is right there in front of you now. I know that sounds sappy, maybe even like useless information. But consider the power this opportunity gives you in your life right now. The church you seek will always be where you are - as long as you're never satisfied with anything else.

This is an attempt to answer what she wants. The Church in Lyons Wisconsin teaches modesty as opposed to unscriptural standards. And if one clicks on the link to the teaching called "foundations" they will see they are very strong that anything less than Acts 2:38 is not sufficient for salvation.

I live in Ky so I do not attend there. But the Pastor came down and spent a weekend with us a few years ago. So this is not a simple "shameless plug" to try to get a new member.

I would point ANYONE to the body there if they seek the foundation truths of Christ in a loving rather than legalistic enviroment.

I don't preach a standard, but I do try to live a standard. And because I try to live one, the rest of the church follows my leading. (Some of course better than others, but they are all growing in the Lord)

JaneEyre 09-15-2007 01:27 PM

Believe me I do have standards, including those of apparel. I would like to find a church that preaches Acts 2:38 as being the plan of salvation, without having a long list of thou shall nots that are not Biblical regarding apparel. These churches must be more scarce than I ever imagined. Having held to standards for many years, I am not saying I want to attend a church with no Biblical standards.
