REVIVAL, the 180 proof liquor, and REACHING THE LOST

Tonight, Coonskinner, in listing factors for why he thinks the movement has drifted left stated:

Quote:

The overwhelming and somewhat arrogant, in my opinion, obsession with the idea that the UPC must "reach the world." We have gotten so drunk on this 180 proof liquor called "Revival" that we have forgotten to preach much else at our meetings.

I believe in revival if I believe in anything--I believe we are called to be witnesses. But this idea that God has to have us (the UPC) to reach the world for Him is killing us.
Quote:

....that ought to be enough to get me tried, convicted and sentenced for now.
In clarifying this first statement, he said:

Quote:

The "reach the lost at any cost" mentality is what I am talking about.

The idea that inflates human egos to the point that they have to improve on God's methods for soulwinning.
AGREE OR DISAGREE? WHY?

What's wrong with what he said? It's true.
Haven't you ever heard the old saying "Reach the lost at any cost"?

Really? At ANY cost? I don't think so.

I won't sacrifice my wife and kids well-being to reach the lost anymore.
I learned that lesson the hard way.

BTW, I personally, can't reach the whole world. I can only impact my circle.

This is true. The only way we can impact the rest of the world or parts of it is through prayer, through $$$ and through support of those who are going into other areas of the world to preach Truth and the Gospel.

This is why we need TV.....to reach folks outside our circle of friends! :)

I think we get too caught up with "revival". Why not just concentrate on doing what we need to do i.e. living for God the way we ought? If revival needs to happen, God will send it.

I'm talking about REAL TRUE AUTHENTIC revival. Not the kind where an evangelist comes in and gets everyone excited for a few days or weeks and then once he's gone it all goes back to "normal" again.

but that would mean we're drunk on "REVIVAL".

Digging4Truth 03-01-2007 10:35 PM

I can't argue with that.

ManOfWord 03-01-2007 10:42 PM

I agree with CS wholeheartedly!!!

It is almost like people keep pulling "slot machine handle" just one more time in meeting after meeting just to have "revival." Most folks don't have a clue of what the means. Most folks think revival is some sterile envirionment where all that basically happens is a huge amount of people get saved.

In true revivals, people's sinfulness is revealed to them and it drives people to their faces first not their feet. Revival is held out to people like a piece of candy that is nothing but sweetness.

It is arrogant for ANY organization to feel that THEY are the ones entrusted with the "holy grail" of the moving of God's spirit.
