The Church our Mother
I have heard it taught while God is our Father, that the Church is our Mother.
Do you think this analogy holds true?? Why or Why Not?? |
It's a breif analogy that works for some practical applications... but how did we end up with people crying ABBA MAMMA?!? :)

I've heard it that Jesus is our Father and the Church (Jerusalem above per Gal 4:26) is our mother. In this way, Proverbs 1:8 which says, "My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother" means listen to the Word (Bible) of your Dad (Jesus) and follow the teachings/traditions of your mother (the church). But, if the marriage of the Lamb and His Bride has not happened yet, are we children of premarital sex?

Gal 4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
Gal 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. Jerusalem is consistently a type of the Church. |

Evangelist Mike Easter preaches/teaches a pretty awesome sermon about this analogy. It's titled...."I know who your Daddy is, but WHO IS YOUR MAMA?"
