Question for "Con's"

I am copying and pasting this from "The Latest" thread where I replied... my reply isn't showing up though... not sure what I did wrong there. But I wanted to get this question out there. I think this would be an ok place to do it??? (still new to posting... tell me if I'm in the wrong spot)

I also have an honest, not stiving or trying to start anything... but an honest question for all you "CON's" as you've been called.

I want to make a disclaimer first... I don't have a tv... don't want one. Had one a few times in the past few years, and each time got so tired of the ads for beer and commercials that used sex to sell everything from Gillette razers to Cars that we decided for our family and our minds to just not have it. We also have a two year old who takes every little thing in and decided we didn't want it for his sake either. He can watch Bob the Builder dvd's just as easily as on tv... And we're saving money not having it. :-)
My parents, who when we were growing up never had one, have one now that gets two channels and they rarely turn it on. They bought it during the begining of the Iraq war to watch the news and now the seldom even watch that. I don't believe owning a television is sin... I do believe watching "........" is.

So.. with that tidbit of info about me in your minds...Could you (the Con's) please explain to me how the internet is any safer or more pure than televisions are? I know for a fact how easy it is to see the dirty, the profane, the sinful on a computer. And yes, you have a history log that people can check on, you can try filters.. but if a weak saint... a struggling saint or even preacher wants to see something, they can see it with much GREATER ease than even on a television set.
My husband, sports lover he is... an watch all the hockey and baseball games he wants on the internet.
I also know some folks who spend hours on the internet, though they don't own a tv to spend hours in front of.

And our CON's churches have websites...

So... how DO the television and the internet differ?

Sorry this post is so long...

I am not a con but a mod. It is my observation that cons get on the hobby horse of anti-T.V. and ignor those things worse than T.V. ever thought about being. It is a bad habit to knock T.V. and go to hell accessing pornography on the internet.

IMHO.

This got very little response on either place I posted it... that's interesting in itself. I wonder why? I was asking an honest question since I see both sides of the issue myself and I even tend to lean away from tv.

Not a preacher, but consider myself to be conservative....not UC, but still.

I don't see a huge difference between TV and internet. And you're right...the access is there for any who would take advantage of it.

IMHO...being for/against one but not the other is a bit of a contradiction for those that may not have self-control on the internet.

That being said, I believe there are many people that have the self-control to make wise use of the internet with out being hypocrital in their stance against TV.
