If people cannot help being overweight...

Then why has God never miraculously (instantaneously) cured someone of obesity?

:largehalo

I always wanted God to do that...I'd even handle the embarrassment of my pants falling down.

That is what I was imagining earlier when thinking about this... all the people trying to hold their pants up at the altar!

Before anyone gets offended, I and my family are all overweight, but we refuse to blame anyone but ourselves, our lifestyles, etc. I am the skinniest person in my family and I weigh 40 pounds more than the "recommended maximum weight" for my height and frame.

My brother and I are working out over an hour a day 7 days a week to change our lifestyle (and have been doing so since March of this year). Even if someone has a metabolism or glandular or whatever problem, it is STILL their responsibility to manage their own weight... If God gave you a brand new Cadillac, and you brought it back 2 years later and had never changed the oil, or done any maintenance or repairs on it, and you asked for another new one because you hadn't taken care of the old one... what kind of person would that make you?

this follows the same logic as the person who can't gain any weight no matter how many thick milkshakes they drink every day all day and wonders why God doesn't heal them of their skinniness.

I'm not saying that obesity is only the result of genetics. Of course what you eat and the life-style you live plays into the equation.

But on the other hand, the way your body is made does play SOME part. Just like the person can't seem to gain an ounce. The way their body plays SOME part in that as well.

You just gotta work the best way you can with the hand you are dealt.

I had to start something... I'm bored and lonely over here (and surrounded by 1.3 billion Chinese people, the majority of whom are not overweight, regardless of any hereditary or other medical conditions)

:D
