Rev. John Caples, Jr.
 

This morning is was directed to a website of Rev. John Caples Jr. who pastors an Apostolic church in Waukegan, ILL. His church is called Jesus Name Apostolic Church.

We became close friends years ago when he was evangelizing in ALJC and some UPC churches. He was/is a great preacher and his wife was an awesome singer!

Anyways, in the summer of 1984, I formed a singing group called ACTS '84 that toured churches mostly in the mid-west and south areas. One of our tour stops was in Waukegan at Bro. Zehrung's "Upper Room" church in a warehouse.

I'm telling y'all, WE HAD CHURCH!!!!!!!! Bro. Caples was the assistant pastor at the time, and he was doing very well financially selling pharmaceuticals. He invited me to stay at his home for the evening. He talked and told me his vision for that church that God had given him. He told me about his vision to go on TV and spread a positive non-racial message. He told me about his vision of the church being mixed racially. In his vision he saw a huge building with over a thousand people in it. (At the time, their church was running around 80-100 people!)

I look at his website and tears filled my eyes!. I couldn't believe it! It has turned out almost exactly as he had visioned!!!!!!

For those of you that don't know him, he was playing for the Chicago Bears football team when God touched him and turned his life around. He is a dynamic preacher and is strong on the Apostolic message.

Looking at the website, I noticed that he was at the Pontiac, MI UPC church for a while before becoming pastor at his home church.

I believe the church was UPC before switching to ALJC. He is mentioned as being a district elder. Does anyone know if he is still in the ALJC?

From what I know Bro. Caples left the UPC to join the PAW's.

I met Elder Caples years ago while he was with Elder Zerung. I preached a Conf. in Hammond and he was there.

From what I know, he left the UPC to join the ALJC. The website mentions the ALJC, but doesn't mention the PAW. I think Bro. Caples wanted to remain in the ALJC.

I sent him an email. I'll find out! :)

They look more PAW than ALJC?

Looking at his site and his staff, I dare say he is NOT ALJC and is more likely PAW or COOLJC. The District Elder designation would make one believe he is probably PAW.

I remember the Caples when they used to evangelize.

You may be right! I looked at the ALJC website list of churches, and his church is not listed! :)

The PAW doesn't list it's churches or pastors. You have to pay $5 and have it sent to you!

No one said there were dumb. Why send something for free when you can get money for it?

John caples left the ALJC many years ago due to some conflicts in fellowship (he said he wasn't getting any at the time if I remember right) and joined the UPC. That did not last long, and he left them also. I thought he was independent, but it appears I am mistaken. I have friends in his church. A couple of discreet cals will give us the info., if they can be reached today.
