By coincidence, I also received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at age 16, and I also suffer from depression (it runs in my family) and continue to do so. Receiving the Holy Ghost did not remove the illness from my life, but in God I found relief from its symptoms. For a period of time I took medicine, but was uncomfortable with the side effects. While I would never advise someone else to stop taking medicine, I can report I was able to find relief from the symptoms through prayer and communion with God. I have come to view it as having a "thorn in the flesh", and it causes me to seek and find my strength in God. Dwelling in the presence of the Lord has become all important to me, for "...in Thy presence is fulness of joy..." (Ps 16:11).
