Today that is not the case. We don't need to drink wine to purify our water, or to help with our stomach ailments, because there are other options open to us. Today, because of the problem with the alcohol, addiction, and the door that alcohol opens that is hard to close - we choose not to drink, simply because we know that alcohol starts on a slippery slope. Since it is not a necessity to our way of life, we just avoid it.

Sliery slope is a fallacy. Lots of ppl drink and don't become alcoholics or move to drugs
