Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
And for the old saw about "hymns are ABOUT God but the new stuff is better cause it's TO God"...
Balderpucky.
We are instructed "declare among the people His doings" as part of worship. Hymns of praise that give testimony to God's great deeds are not only okay but SPECIFIED IN SCRIPTURE as part of the worship God wants. Besides MANY old hymns are directed TO God as prayers of supplication, adoration, thanksgiving, etc.
Jesus, thou art the sinner's friend.
As such I look to thee.
Now in the fullness of thy love,
O Lord remember me.
Remember thy pure words of grace,
Remember Calvary.
Remember all thy dying groans,
And then remember me.
Or how about:
Jesus hold my hand,
I need thee every hour.
Through this pilgrim land
protect me by thy power.
Hear my feeble plea,
O Lord look down on me,
When I kneel in prayer I hope to meet You there
blessed Jesus hold my hand.
Or:
I need thee, O I need thee!
Every hour I need thee!
Bless me now my Saviour,
I come to thee!
