That is what is not being taught anymore, which is why all the hub-bub over how the delegates vote by comparing them to how the public may have voted. the public merely votes at a "polling" station. It is merely a "POLL." Polls have no weight or binding obligations. We think and have been taught we are a "democracy" but we are in fact a Democratic Republic which is designed to prevent a pure democracy which in fact, mob rule.
A democratic republic and the electoral college is designed to protect us from the whims of the majority at the expense of the republic.
And remember, we are "The United STATES" not the United People. This is a nation comprised of the several STATES and the State electors do the actual voting which is influenced by the "POLL" taken from it's citizens.
