If you want to know what things would come to pass in that generation go back and read. The disciples asked three questions: Matt. 24.3, "And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us, (1) when shall these things be? and (2) what shall be the sign of thy coming, and (3) and of the end of the world?"
He is speaking of the "end times" for that age, the old covenant age that ended completely in 70 AD.

IF the fig tree represents the modern state of Israel then the "this generation" would be the generation starting in 1948 and ending at the latest 2068.....Gen.6:3 And the LORD said,"my Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh: yet his days shall be 120 years."
