Tough on criminals. America has more individuals incarcerated than any other westernized nation. America also employs the death penalty, unlike most other westernized nations, as often as nations like Iran, Chad, and the Sudan. Bro…tougher on criminals? I know, let’s just pass a law that will put us all on house arrest unless we’re working. LOL Seriously though…most issues regarding crime are state level and local issues. As you know I go to Canada every year and have family in Canada and friends from Europe. A family currently attending our church pastored on Holland and previous to this lived in Italy 12 years. Bro…they are terrified at American society. My brother assured me that if he had children he’d most likely move back to Italy. His wife explained how in her home town, within 20 minutes of Venice, you can walk around town at 3 AM without ANY fear of being attacked or robbed. She thinks America has lost it’s way terribly and her husband, who’s an American, believes that America has grown worse from the time when he was last in the US as opposed to Europe which has become better. Please note…Europe doesn’t have the death penalty and isn’t as “tough” on crime as we are. We’re criminalizing society and creating a society that doesn’t value life, largely because the government doesn’t value life. This will blow your mind, in Norway they don’t execute murders…they send them to independent living communities where they live together and are rehabilitated. They leave the community to work and you never know if you’re passing one of them on the street. After work they just public transportation back to the community. Interestingly…their crime rate is far lower than ours and they have more success in rehabilitating violent criminals. What I was told was that in Norway they believe that by placing a high standard on life and keeping higher standards of living as a government they impact the psyche of the population causing the entire society to hold a higher regard for life and wellbeing. The abortion rate when compared to the US is also lower. In the US the abortion rate is roughly 20 per every 1000 pregnancies. It’s only 13 in Norway…and 8 in Belgium who holds the lowest abortion rate over all. Both nations have an abortion rate lower than we have had, even compared to when abortion was illegal here (and that’s based on maternal morbidity, so the rate was most likely even higher in decades prior to legalization). Please note…both countries are what you would denigrate as being “liberal” and “weak on criminals”. From a “value of life” perspective…that’s not too shabby.
