If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come—one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law.

Hello! I agree with that! I did not say we are under the MC.
You miss the fact the MC revealed rightousness and truth to us. To do what is right! To do what is right to God and our fellow man and our surrounding does not change. Jesus said balance of the law hung on two commandments.
The break down of how to fullfill this is shown in the law. Not every law in the MC had to do with the two commandments by which all the law hanged.

The problem is your are confusing changing of the law which had to be because the law/covenant did not contain the provision of the Death, burial and resurrection among other things. Just because we are in a new covenant/law/contract does not negate the former knowledge of how to act and God's desire for us and how to live. This would be revealed more deeply by his Spirit which is the LAW of God on our hearts so we can make FULL is will in our lives. This does not NEGATE the facts of what SIN STILL IS! SIN is still SIN no matter of the covenant. Covenants only reflect God's law/will/nature/character. Covenants in themselves don't define what SIN is. God's revealing of his nature/will/character in view of our lives which brings knowledge to do what is right in the covenants can reveal our sin. As it points to what is Good, Holy and Rightouess. To do contrary to God's revealed nature and will for us and do our own will shows our sin do to the weakness of the flesh which is CONTRARY to God law.

Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

That is walking after the Spirit by faith!

Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

The LAW of GOD is always the reflection of his character which was found revealed in part in the MC. To say hey God does not want you to do this, thus I won't do it, make me a legalist? NO! "all scripture is given for instruction in righeousnes etc...." Does it put me under the MC? NO! I am not claiming justification before GOD through works of the law. I am reflecting him and his righeousness because I have been saved by Grace and his will and nature are revealed through me which is his law written and made known on my heart and through my life. Thus by walking in faith by the LEADING of the Spirit I fullfill the righteousness requirement of the law through the blood of Christ as he is made know in my life by his SPirit that bears witness to live over sin.

God cannot commit sin thus when you follow after the Spirit you are going to live and be subject to God's laws as he is leading you according to his will which is the LAW revealed now more full in you!
