For the last three years I used this: http://www.bible-reading.com/bible-plan.html

It's a reading from a different genre each day. I found that if I read the Bible straight through, I usually quit around Leviticus and/or Numbers. But I've been able to stick with it and been blessed from it by doing it this way.

This year I'm changing things up a little and using the M'Cheyne plan: http://hippocampusextensions.com/mcheyneplan/

I purchased a devotional book, For the Love of God, follows this plan written by an Evangelical teacher, D.A. Carson. In this plan you end up reading the NT twice and the OT once in a year.

I started doing that this year with the chapters in the Bible that are basically lists. I follow along reading as well, but it much easier to listen to someone else pronounce the names. Normally when I read the Bible, I go much slower and try to soak it in and I can't do that with someone reading it. I use the audio on Studylight.com. It only gives audio for a chapter at a time and I like the man's voice, cadence, and tone who reads it.

That's a little too fast for me! I also read a psalm a day apart from the daily reading. I did read a chapt in Proverbs a day which ends up reading the book of Proverbs every month. I'd switch the translation ever so often for a change. I found proverbs could be hard to read in the choppy areas. I'm switching it up again this year so I don't get bored. I'm doing a study in Proverbs one month, then reading a chapter the next month, then going back to studying the next month. By studying, I mean I do word searches in the book of Proverbs...like all the places the word, wisdom, is found, or the word, foolish, etc and see what the book as a whole has to say on that topic.

ln my daily bible reading, I only read the KJV because its the version I cut my teeth on and have been reading ever since. Also I prefer a literal translation but when I don't understand something...I go to other translations...usually the NKJV, NASB, ESV, NIV, NLT (usually in that order as well!)...sometimes Green's and Youngs as well. Rarely do I go to the Message. I also go to the NET Bible too. And I read the Bible from the internet...Studylight.com because it offers all those translations and much more. There are other Bible sites but Studylight is my preferred site.

I have a gift card for Borders books and have thought about buying the Bible Experience. I was going to listen to the Bible when I go to sleep at night, hoping it would get into my subconscious. But I haven't found one on the internet that keeps going so I don't have to get up and put it on another book or chapter.

Don't be so legalistic!!! J/K. if you are listening and truly listening and not letting your mind wander than it would count in my book. The thing is you might retain more if you use more than one of your senses...like hearing and seeing together.

I think you're doing great! Don't quit!
I am the #1 fan of the bible experience LOL

Last night I was listening to it as I went to sleep, I was so tired and still I fought sleep for over an hour paying attention to the reading. Finally I gave in and went on to sleep.

I read proverbs daily too, at least I TRY to - I think everyone should read Proverbs - daily even!! Lot of truth we need to be constantly reminded of...
