Stand Against Hollywood - Questions to Ponder

The practice of refraining from watching TV or products of Hollywood is a standard practice of a majority of Pentecostal Churches (UPCI). There has been a longstanding "holiness standard" that is shouted from the pulpits from coast to coast against Hollywood and everything that Hollywood stands for.

If Pentecostal church members are found not to uphold this "standard", they are quickly spoken to and released from any leadership or platform ministry position. This includes singers, musicians, care pastors, teachers, and other church leadership positions. If one is willing to destroy or give away their TV then they maybe restored to the position they once held.

But one must question the genuineness of this "stand" against Hollywood. When Pastors wives prance into church wearing the clothes of Hollywood. Pastors children are dressed in the trends and styles of Hollywood. In some extreme situations the Pastor looks like a model right out of the latest copy of GQ. If the Pentecostal (UPCI) and Apostolic Church is going to take a stand against Hollywood they must consider the following.

Hollywood is more than just TV, movies and music. Here is a partial list they should consider not participating in, if they are really going to take a stand:

No Designer Clothes
No Hollywood Styled Clothes
No Disney - This includes products and theme parks
No VeggieTales - (Owned by Hollywood now)
No purchasing books from any of the major publishers - (Owned by Hollywood)
No DVD's or BlueRay's - Standards of Hollywood
No purchasing of products by GE (GE owns a lot of Hollywood)
No Theme parks - 99% owned by Hollywood companies or have characters from Hollywood
No purchasing of magazines - (most have advertisers from Hollywood)
No shopping at the mall - (Style of clothes modeled after Hollywood - not to mention the advertisers from Hollywood who advertise in the mall)
No computers with Microsoft or Apple operating systems - (They are major supporters of Hollywood)
No use of internet, unless it is church related.
No drinking soda - (Coke and Pepsi are major supporters of Hollywood)
No Starbucks - (Supporters of Hollywood)
No going to the "live" theater. - (It's all Hollywood)
No going to a "show" in Las Vegas.

I'm sure by the list above, the message that I'm trying to get across to the Pentecostal (UPCI) movement is obvious. I feel that if you take a stand you should take a complete stand. If you are not, then why take a stand on a just one aspect of an entity like Hollywood? What is the true reason of the Pentecostal (UPCI) stand against "TV"?

Pray, ponder, pray, listen and take action.
