He was not acting secretive.

He was asserting his rights and freedoms as assured him by the Constitution of The United States.

Had their answer been yes... he would have answered.

The DID NOT answer yes because they had no legal standing to force him to answer those questions.

He knew they didn't.
He stood up to the challenge.
He won.

They had no right.
He knew they had no right.
He called their bluff.
He was set free.

That isn't being secretive. That is making sure your personal rights are recognized.
